Born in Wigan, Richard Ashcroft rose to fame in the mid-1990s as the enigmatic frontman of The Verve. Following the huge success of 1997’s Urban Hymns, including a Number 1 single with The Drugs Don’t Work, the band split, allowing Ashcroft to forge a solo career.
Outspoken and passionate, Ashcroft’s distinctive voice and moving lyrics has made him into one of Britain’s most-admired musical heroes.
