The late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman will be honoured by fellow musicians and his former bandmates.

A tribute concert will take place to honour the late Chris Cornell tonight (16 January 2019).

The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman tragically lost his life to suicide, aged 52, in May 2017.

Last year it was announced that the grunge icon will be celebrated with a star-studded event called I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell, which will include performances from Foo Fighters, Metallica and members of his former bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, which included Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready.

Listen to Cornell's rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U with his daughter Toni below:

At the time of the announcement Variety reported that Jimmy Kimmel will host the concert, which is set to be "presented by Cornell's family and closest friends".

“We are honored to have all these amazing artists and friends come together to pay tribute to and show their love and appreciation for Chris, his music and the mark he’s left on the world.  We look forward to sharing this night with all the fans,” said his widow Vicky Cornell.

Each ticket purchased online for the I Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell at The Forum will include a copy of Cornell’s self-titled career retrospective album.
