8. The Verve Vs. The Rolling Stones
In 1997 The Verve were at the top of their game and the top of the charts. Their iconic anthem, Bitter Sweet Symphony, had become an instant classic and was flying off the shelves. That was, of course, until The Rolling Stones' lawyers wrapped their ears around it. The band sampled an orchestral version of The Rolling Stones' The Last Time and, although it was licensed to them, The Stones believed they used too much of the song. The Verve lost royalties. Ouch.
