The Cure played their first live show in three years last night (Thursday 6th October) and debuted two songs from their long-awaited new album.
Performing at the Riga Arena in Latvia, Robert Smith and co opened with a new track Alone, and ended the main set with another fresh track, Endsong. Both songs are expected to appear on the band's fourteenth studio album, titled Songs Of A Lost World. It's the follow-up
The Cure - Alone (live Riga)
The band appeared as a six-piece with the return of guitarist Perry Bamonte, Smith's former guitar tech, who was a full member of the band between 1990 and 2004, before one of the band's frequent line-up changes. Bamonte appeared on The Cure's 1992 Wish album, which is getting a 30th anniversary reissue in November.
Elsewhere the band - frontman Smith, Bamonte (guitar and keyboards), bassist Simon Gallup, guitarist Reeves Gabrels, keyboardist Roger O'Donnell and drummer Jason Cooper - delved into their 45-year back catalogue, performing hits like Boys Don't Cry, Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm In Love and Close To Me, plus deep cuts like Play For Today, Shake Dog Shake and the Wish album track Trust.
