Prince's cause of death has reportedly been confirmed.

According to the Associated Press, a law enforcement official has revealed the Purple Rain singer died of an "opioid overdose".

The official who provided the news is said to have spoken anonymously because "he was not authorised to speak to the media".

The 57-year-old was found dead on Thursday 21 April at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The vegan had a reputation for clean-living, with close friends and associates claiming they had never seen him under the influence.

The news comes as Michael Eavis confirmed the Raspberry Beret singer was in talks to headline Glastonbury this year.

Speaking to The Sun, Eavis said: "I was going to meet his agent, it was all planned but it didn’t happen".

He added: "His death was so sad. That’s a real star that we never had."
