Mercury Prize 2015 shortlist announced

Shortlisted artists include Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice and Jamie XX.

The shortlisted acts for the Mercury Prize 2015 have been announced. Wolf Alice, Florence + The Machine and Jamie XX are among the artists to receive the honour, which celebrates the best British albums of the year. 

Each of the 12 artists will receive a specially commissioned trophy at the awards show, while the winner will receive an additional winner's trophy and £20,000.

Nominees have reacted to the news, with Wolf Alice thanking their supporters on Twitter.

Last year saw Young Fathers win the prize, with their debut album Dead, while Primal Scream won the first ever award for Screamadelica in 1992.

PJ Harvey is the only artist to win the award twice, first in 2001 with Stories From The City, Stories From the Sea and again in 2011 with Let England Shake.

The winner of coveted prize will be announced on Friday 20 November 2015.
