Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has reappeared in court facing a number of sex abuse charges.

The 35 year old was arrested earlier this month and appeared before Cardiff Magistrates on December 19 accused of conspiring to rape a one-year-old girl,  two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children; possessing, making and distributing indecent images; and possessing "extreme" animal pornography.

Two other women - who cannot be named for legal reasons - were also charged with similar offences.

Today all three appeared in Cardiff Crown Court via a video-link for a preliminary hearing - which only lasted 10 minutes

They only spoke to confirm their names.

The singer's mother Elaine was among those in the court's public gallery. His defence team has previously said he intends to deny the charges.

Watkins has been refused bail and remanded in custody with a plea and case management hearing scheduled at Cardiff Crown Court for March 11.

The rest of Lostprophets reacted with shock when he was charged.

The band's official website was taken down as soon as the news broke and replaced with a statement from the other four members.

"Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock," it read.
"We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers."
