Julian Casablancas has been talking to Radio X about his brand new album Tyranny, which is out 22 September.
The record is being billed as by Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, something the Strokes frontman says is an important distinction from his previous outings away from the band he is best known for.
"It's not a solo record, this is pretty much a new band," he told Danielle Perry on the Radio X Evening Show.
"It's probably more important to the band and rightly so," he continued.
"Sure, I'll take credit for like things I didn't do whenever I can [laughs]. I'm joking but a lot of it is stuff that I'm writing and I'm still involved in the music a lot but it is a collaboration and a lot of the stuff would not be close to what it is... I mean I definitely want it to be darker and more aggressive and eclectic too, so not necessarily just dark and aggressive, there's many different flavours to it."
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz don't currently have any UK dates confirmed but the singer told Danielle they will definitely be playing over here at some point.
"In December we're going to come by but I think we're only coming for like a week to do promo stuff then I think in February or March is when we're planning on doing a bunch."
