The band confirmed the news today on Twitter.

Coldplay are the first act to be confirmed as headliners for Glastonbury 2016.

The band took to Twitter to announce the news today (Tuesday 16 February) with a picture of some sheep grazing at Worthy Farm, with a very bare looking Pyramid Stage.

Chris Martin and co. will be closing the festival at the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 26 June, with Friday and Saturday's headliners still to be announced.

Their forthcoming set marks the fourth time the band have headlined the Somerset Festival.

The Hymn For The Weekend band will also receive the Godlike Genius Award at tomorrow night's NME Awards, where they'll close the ceremony at the O2 Academy Brixton, with a set of their greatest hits.
