It's time to start thinking about the summer ahead - and which events you should be snapping up a ticket to. Radio X picks a handful of events to whet your appetite…

1. Boardmasters

Boardmasters

This boutique festival on the Cornwall coast has blossomed from being a surfer’s paradise to one of the must-see events on the musical calendar. Alongside the usual sea-based fun and competitions, 2017 will also see performance from Kaiser Chiefs, Primal Scream, Catfish And The Bottlemen, James Bay, Wolf Alice, Maximo Park and more. Become a surfer dude for a long weekend!

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foals and The Wknd are the first acts to be announced for the annual week away by the sea in Spain. The past decade has seen Benicassim gain in popularity and this veteran Euro fest now sees the world’s biggest acts perform. Spend the day by the beach and the evening watching the very best music. Nice.

The classic UK double-headed festival has announced Muse as their first 2017 headliner, and with Glastonbury tickets no longer available, this is your chance to get down to one of the country’s biggest events in 2017. Also on the bill are Bastille and At The Drive In (a UK exclusive), but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Our interest has been piqued with 2017’s IOW line-up: the headliners are Arcade Fire, Rod Stewart and Run DMC and David Guetta. If that’s not an eclectic mix, we don’t know what is. Also confirmed for the original UK festival are Bastille, George Ezra and our new favourite, Rag ’N’ Bone Man. Could be one to keep an eye on next year!
