Johnny Marr announces details of new album

Playland is the former Smiths guitarist's second solo outing and will be released on 6 October.
Marr says of the album: "When The Messenger came out I kept on writing. I liked that the band had a momentum going on tour and a connection with the audience, and I thought that energy would be good to capture on the new record."
Marr goes on to say that the album is inspired by a 1938 book, Homo ludens, by the Dutch historian Johan Huizinga which "explores the concept of play as a principal element of cultural development".
"It's important to sound like your environment," says Marr, "and on this record that's London and Manchester. The feeling of the cities and the people make it into the music."

The first single will be Easy Money. Marr has already announced a tour of the UK in October:
