Jake Bugg: I'll Never Forget Where I'm From

Jake Bugg has told Radio X that, despite his new album Shangri La being named after the studio in Malibu where he went to record it, he won't ever forget his Nottingham roots.
The follow up to his Mercury nominated self-titled 2012 debut is released today. It was preceeded by single Slumville Sunrise, a look back at the Clifton estate in Nottingham where he grew up.
"It's kind of just about... it's funny how I didn't think I was going to be talking about life back home and stuff like that after so much had changed but it was quite interesting after everything that had happened to go back and see things from a completely different perspective. It was something that inspired me quite a bit," he told Radio X's John Kennedy as he talked him through Shangri La track by track.
These days Jake Bugg is working with Rick Rubin, has been to parties at the house of a Beastie Boy and has Oscar award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence among his fans - but he is determined not to lose sight of his roots.
"I will never forget where I'm from, it's made me into who I am. I was there for 17 years, all my life. I knew there was a world out there, I wanted to see it and I'm getting to do that. It's the people I miss. When I get back to Clifton you do go to places and they do hold memories but I spent so much time there that I wanted to see the rest of the world."
