Franz Ferdinand release new single, Stand On The Horizon on Monday 28 July.

The track is taken from the band's fourth album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. It's inspired by Alex Kapranos’ time in Sunderland as a child, mentioning both the local Marsden Rock and South Shields Metro station.

"Ach, it's one of those optimistic pessimist's songs - as the North Sea sings 'Come to me! Throw yourself to me!' all you can imagine is stepping across the horizon into a golden future while Marsden Rock collapses under the waves," Alex commented.

This summer sees them play festivals across the globe, including a headline appearance at Fuji Rock in Japan and shows at T in the Park and Somerset House in the UK.
