The Blur frontman has been added to the Queen's New Year's Honours List.

Damon Albarn will be soon officially known as Damon Albarn OBE, after being added to the Queen's New Year's Honours List for 2016.

The Blur frontman is joined by fellow musician Goldie - real name Clifford Price - who will receive a CBE for his contribution to music, film and charity.

Veteran actress Barbara Windsor is set to become a CBE, while everyone's favourite candidate for the next Bond, Idris Elba, will also receive an OBE.

According to the BBC, a total of 1,196 people are on this year's list, with just over three quarters of the recipients being those who have worked in their local community.

Albarn - who has formed various side projects including Gorillaz, The Good The Bad & The Queen and Rocket Juice & The Moon - is also known for his philanthropy and involvement in the Stop The War Campaign.

The star has also done much to promote African music, working with the likes of Youssou N'Dour and long-time friend and collaborator, Tony Allen.

The 47-year-old tops off a great year, after releasing Blur's The Magic Whip LP and writing the score for new musical, wonder.land.

Next year looks to be even busier, with Albarn confirming he's written a new album for The Good The Bad & The Queen and promising a "fast" and energetic fifth Gorillaz LP.
