The Mercury nominated band have distanced themselves from claims they are the "new Radiohead"... saying it's "premature"...

In an interview with The Independent the band - who wre hotly tipped to win this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize with debut record An Awesome Wave - explained their concerns, saying "Radiohead have had an amazing career and we've only just done our first album".

"We don't ever want to find ourselves writing an album that we don't feel comfortable with. It'd be horrible to hear anyone say, 'Alt-J: First album was great, second album was really good, third album... they just blew it," the band continued.

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize is awarded on November 1.

The nominees are:

Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
Ben Howard - Every Kingdom
Django Django - Django Django
Field Music - Plumb
Jessie Ware - Devotion
Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough?
Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again
The Maccabees - Given to the Wild
Plan B - Ill Manors
Richard Hawley - Standing at the Sky's Edge
Roller Trio - Roller Trio
