Alt-J: “We throw a lot of fruit around before we go onstage”

As they ready themselves for a major tour of the UK this winter, the band have been telling us all about their very special pre-gig ritual… and it’s quite surprising for such a thoughtful group.
Speaking backstage before their set at Leeds Festival, keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton told our very own Sunta Templeton:
“Before the show, we do vocal warm ups… we cut fruit up in the dressing room, throw it in the air and catch it on knives, things like that.”
Singer and guitarist Joe Newman admitted: “We act like children just before we play. It’s throwing a lot of fruit around the dressing room and causing a mess really.
“It’s a complete disregard for anybody who has to clean it up afterwards.”
Alt-J have announced a huge arena tour for later this year. The band will play massive shows up and down the country in December.
As well as playing Glasgow's SSE Hydro and Manchester Central, they will also visit Cardiff, Bournemouth, Exeter, Leeds and Nottingham,
Tickets go on sale 9am September 3rd.
